Shuttle & Save…on gas that is! We’ve got a shuttle departing from Entrance # 1 at Gloucester Centre, 1980 Ogilvie Road! Here are the details:

What you can do to help reduce waste and our carbon foot print

• Bring a drink container that can be used throughout the day for water. And reuse your plastic cup (or bring your own) in the beer tent.
• Help us recycle – There are plenty of recycle bins on site and make sure to sort your waste into the appropriate bins.
• Leave your car at home and take the shuttle
• Pledge online – Raise money for the kids at CHEO with our easy to use online pledging system

Together we can reach our collective goal of raising $55,000 for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.

There are three ways you can help us reach that goal:

1. Collecting pledges or donations:

Donate now! This year our goal is to raise $20 000 in pledges and donations. Did you know that if every one of you raised just $20 that we would surpass our pledging total of the last 4 years? It’s true! Every penny you raise goes directly to the donation total that helps the children of our community. Visit our pledging and donations section of our site for your pledge form and some helpful tips on pledging.

2. Mobile Giving:

Brand new this year is our Mobile Giving campaign. Simply text the word “BBQ” to 45678 to donate $10.00 to the CHEO Foundation. A one time donation of $10.00 will be added to your mobile phone bill or deducted from your pre-paid balance.

3. Silent Auction:

For the second year we will have an on site silent auction where you will find great items to bid on. For example, hotel stays and gift certificates to various restaurants, among many other items.

For those who have already picked up your team packages and completed all waivers, you may proceed directly to the grounds. Your start times will vary so please check when your first game starts. I suggest arriving 30 minutes in advance of your first game.

For all others please check in at the sports registration desk on arrival to pick up your team package. The registration desk opens at 8am. I suggest arriving earlier than 8:30am. There may be lineups so please show up early.

In the package you will find your meal tickets, water tickets and bracelets for each player.

All waivers must be signed to receive your team package.  If you or your team mates have not signed the waiver electronically, please download the Sporting Waiver, print it, fill it out and bring with you on the day of the tournament.

Ottawa’s biggest backyard BBQ returns for a 19^th year

Get a sneak peek at the action or come register a team! Join founders, organizers, and sponsors of the annual CHEO BBQ at 6:00 p.m., on Wednesday May 25, to kick off their 19^th annual fundraiser.

CHEO BBQ president Mike Machargo will reveal the “Play, Pledge & Win” program as well as the Mobile Giving Campaign for this year’s CHEO BBQ and highlight what else is in store for the 2011 season.

Since its humble beginnings back in 1993 – when Machargo decided to pass a donation bowl amongst a handful of his friends at a backyard barbecue on the day of the CHEO telethon – the annual CHEO BBQ has grown into a full-day event that has raised over $310,000, over the years for the Children’s Hospital and attracts more than 1,500 participants per year.

With roughly 110 teams that competed in the Volleyball and Ultimate Tournament, last year’s BBQ alone brought in over $50,000. The organizing committee is hopeful of surpassing these figures in 2011 – nearly 90 teams have already signed up for the tournament which takes place on Saturday, June 11^th.

Tournament registration has begun and the BBQ is also looking for volunteers. Those interested can sign up online at www.cheobbq.com.
